I did this one year. First I read around 80% of the novels of Dostoevsky in order, then about 80% of the works of Woolf in order. Even though I petered out near the end in both cases, they are some of my most memorable reading experiences. I have thought about doing it again this year, but first I am finishing up the Woolf novels I didn't get to then.
One amusing side effect of reading in order is that if you quit before the end, like I did, you will read more early works than masterpieces. I read Poor Folk but not the Brothers Karamazov, for instance.
Another worthwhile endeavor - reading all (or many) of the works of one small publisher.
I look forward to finding out who your author is for this year!

(Also, I am typing this in an office at UT, so the Plan II snark greatly amused me.)
